At Least 20 Children and One Adult Killed in School Bus Crash in Uganda

A tragic bus accident in Uganda's Kapchorwa District has claimed the lives of at least 20 children and one adult. The bus, en route from a school trip to the Sipi Falls waterfalls, crashed on Thursday night.

The vehicle belonged to King David Junior School, an elementary school based in the capital, Kampala. The deceased adult has been identified as the school's founder and director, Mr. Tadeo Ssekade. Survivors, including several children and three adults, were transported to local hospitals for treatment.

Preliminary police reports indicate the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road, strike a large stone, and overturn. The roof of the bus was ripped off, exposing the seats. Police have launched an investigation into the exact cause of the crash.

Road accidents are a persistent issue in Uganda, frequently attributed to poorly maintained vehicles, speeding, and the generally poor condition of many roads. Statistics from the Uganda Professional Drivers Network show a high number of crashes and fatalities annually, highlighting the dangers on Ugandan roads.
