At Least Five Killed After Ammunition-Laden Vehicle Explodes in Syria’s Idlib Province

At least five people were killed when a vehicle loaded with ammunition exploded in Binnish, a town in Syria’s northwestern Idlib province. Several others were wounded in the blast.

Syrian authorities and reports from the Syrian Arab News Agency and state broadcaster Al Ikhbariah TV reported the deaths. Syrian media did not identify the faction that owned the ammunition stored in the vehicle.

The cause of the explosion remained uncertain. It was not clear whether the ammunition detonated accidentally or whether the vehicle had been used in a deliberate car-bomb attack. Reports also differed over the number of wounded. The Idlib Emergency and Disaster Management Directorate reported five wounded, while Turkey’s Anadolu Agency said eight people were injured.

Two nearby vehicles were destroyed, according to the Turkish outlet. Emergency response teams went to the scene, evacuated the wounded and took them to local hospitals. Residents said they heard a series of powerful explosions, adding to uncertainty in the town over the source and nature of the blast.
