Athlete Dora Čolig Crowned Miss Sport of Croatia in Spectacle Event

Eighteen-year-old Dora Čolig, a member of Athletics Club Koprivnica, was crowned Miss Sport of Croatia, marking a significant moment at an event that celebrates female athletes beyond their physical appearance. The prestigious title was bestowed upon her in Koprivnica, the city hosting the event for the first time in its history.

The crown was presented by Ivana Jurković, a renowned rower and former beauty pageant winner herself, who stepped in for the previous year's winner, Larisa Bertović. This handover symbolized the continuity and camaraderie that defines the Miss Sport of Croatia pageant, connecting generations of Croatian sportswomen.

Čolig's victory is particularly notable as she is the seventh athlete from track and field to claim this title, underscoring a perceived dominance of "the queen of sports" in this competition. She follows in the footsteps of past winners like Kristina Topić, Valerija Čilaš, and Lara Silić.

The pageant itself was a spectacle, featuring ten finalists from diverse sports disciplines. Lea Turkalj, a majorette, was named first runner-up, while Ena Cvijanović, a dancer and daughter of the Croatian Football Federation's spokesperson, secured the second runner-up position. Vasilisa Jakubovskaja, a handball player and daughter of a famous goalkeeper, received the Miss Photogenic award.

Established in 1992 during the Croatian War of Independence, the Miss Sport of Croatia pageant boasts a rich history, predating even the Miss Croatia contest. Visionary sports journalist Ivica Vukotić initiated the event, which has since adapted to changing times while upholding its core principle: celebrating athletes as strong, intelligent, talented, and beautiful individuals. The pageant has evolved under the stewardship of Tamara Roglić and Damir Mrvec, preserving Vukotić's legacy. Winners have included notable figures like model Vanja Rupena and TV presenter Divina Meler, alongside accomplished athletes.
