Atlas and Atlante Deliver a Thrilling Draw at Jalisco Stadium

Atlante rescued a 1-1 draw against Atlas in Guadalajara, but the point suited the hosts more as they remained inside the top five of the standings.

Atlas controlled the first half and took the lead through Luis Esteves. The Portuguese midfielder created space despite Eugenio Pizzuto’s loose marking and fired a powerful shot into the top corner, leaving the goalkeeper with little chance.

Atlante had a chance to level from a controversial penalty, but Atlas goalkeeper Camilo Vargas stopped Jhojan Julio’s powerful effort by diving to his left. The visitors improved late in the half and carried that momentum into the restart.

With 47 minutes played, Martín Sarrafiore reacted first to a rebound from Vargas and pushed the ball into the net for his second goal of the tournament. Four minutes later, Atlante appeared to receive another penalty, but referee Iván López consulted the VAR and overturned the decision, prompting anger among the crowd at Jalisco Stadium.

Atlas nearly snatched the win when Florián Monzón punished an error in Atlante’s buildup and shot from outside the area. His effort struck the crossbar. The draw left Atlas in the upper reaches of the table, while Atlante remained far from the Liguilla.
