Atletico Madrid prepares €30 million bid for Tottenham's Cuti Romero

Atlético de Madrid is reportedly preparing an initial offer of around 30 million euros to sign defender Cristian "Cuti" Romero from Tottenham Hotspur. The Spanish club, along with manager Diego Simeone, has long desired the Argentine center-back.

Romero, who has a contract with Tottenham until 2029, is reportedly seeking a transfer. While Inter Milan has also shown interest with a reported offer of 35 million euros plus variables, Spanish media suggests Romero prefers a move to Madrid. This preference is reportedly due to a special clause in his contract that allows for a move to one of La Liga's top three clubs.

The potential transfer is partly funded by the impending sales of defenders Nahuel Molina to Roma for approximately 19 million euros and Matteo Ruggeri, who is also close to leaving. These sales will generate revenue and free up salary cap space for Atlético.

Romero's potential arrival at Atlético could see him play alongside fellow Argentine Julián Álvarez, provided Álvarez does not move to Barcelona. Molina's departure to Roma is expected to be finalized with a four-year contract, with his salary remaining similar to his current earnings at Atlético.
