Attention: Barranquilla announces road closures and detours for Marco Rubio’s visit on Tuesday, Sept. 8

Barranquilla will operate under a special traffic plan on Tuesday as U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio visits the city for a meeting with Colombian President Abelardo De La Espriella.

The restrictions will apply from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. around Calle 75. Authorities will close sections of Carreras 55 and 56 between Calles 74 and 76, as well as Calle 75 between Carreras 54 and 57.

Drivers traveling south to north on Calle 75 should use Carrera 52, connect with Calle 74 and continue from there. Motorists using Carreras 55 and 56 can take Carreras 54 and 57 west to east from Calle 76. For travel in the opposite direction, officials recommend Carreras 54 and 58 between Calles 72 and 76.

The Barranquilla mayor’s office warned that traffic could build up on nearby corridors, particularly during the afternoon and evening rush. The city said the closures form part of the security arrangements for Rubio’s arrival. He is expected to land at Ernesto Cortissoz Airport, conduct official activities in Barranquilla and then continue to Ecuador and Peru.
