Augsburg Reach Bundesliga Summit for First Time, and Their Coach Saves a Screenshot

Manuel Baum wanted FC Augsburg’s first-ever appearance at the top of the Bundesliga table preserved, so he took a screenshot and saved it on his phone.

The coach made the snapshot after Augsburg recovered from a poor first half to beat Eintracht Frankfurt 4-1. Frankfurt took the lead through Jonathan Burkardt in the sixth minute, but Arijon Ibrahimovic equalized immediately after halftime. Robin Fellhauer, Alexis Claude-Maurice and Fabian Rieder then completed the turnaround.

Baum said he knew the top position represented only a brief moment, but felt the club should enjoy it. “We people all live from moments. If we meet again in a few years, we will all tell each other that Augsburg was once allowed to be top of the table. I think you can enjoy that for a day.”

Goalkeeper Finn Dahmen also celebrated the achievement while acknowledging that Augsburg would not remain there for the entire season. The team’s start has produced six points and a 7-1 goal difference.

Baum resisted calls to set a European qualification target. He said the team would focus on trying to win one match each week rather than announcing ambitions. Still, he praised Augsburg’s squad and depth, saying half of the outfield players could be replaced without significantly weakening the team. Ibrahimovic said the players formed a united group and wanted to continue competing near the top.
