Australia 50-3 in reply to Bangladesh's 64 in second test

Australia reached 50 for three at tea on the opening day of the second test against Bangladesh in Mackay, Queensland. The hosts trailed the tourists by 14 runs after Bangladesh was bowled out for a mere 64 in their first innings.

Recalled paceman Shoriful Islam provided Bangladesh with early success, taking two quick wickets late in the session. He dismissed opener Travis Head for 22 and the out-of-form Marnus Labuschagne for four. Earlier, Taskin Ahmed had Matt Renshaw, recalled to open the batting, caught for eight.

The day, however, belonged to Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc. After captain Pat Cummins won the toss and elected to field on a bouncy wicket, Starc ripped through the Bangladesh batting lineup. He took six wickets for just 12 runs, completing the sixth-fastest five-wicket haul in test history. Starc's devastating spell included taking the first five wickets of the innings, leaving Bangladesh reeling at 12 for five after just 6.4 overs.

Bangladesh, who lead the series 1-0 after a nine-wicket victory in the opener, made one change to their side, bringing in Shoriful Islam. Australia recalled Matt Renshaw for his first test in over three years, replacing Jake Weatherald. Mackay's Great Barrier Reef Arena became Australia's 12th test venue.
