Australia flyhalf Gordon breaks leg, to miss up to two months, report says

Carter Gordon’s latest injury has dealt a major blow to new Wallabies coach Les Kiss, with the Australia flyhalf set to miss up to two months after breaking his leg against Argentina, Nine media reported.

Gordon suffered the injury in the 70th minute of Saturday’s 28-28 draw in Mendoza. Australia could not find a winning score even though Argentina played the final 10 minutes with 13 men.

The 25-year-old had emerged as Kiss’s first-choice flyhalf, a position Australia have struggled to fill in recent years. He will miss the test against world champions South Africa in Perth on September 27, as well as Australia’s home-and-away tests against New Zealand in mid-October. The Wallabies will then travel to Europe for the Nations Championship in November.

Gordon’s injury record has repeatedly interrupted his career. He missed July’s Nations Championship tests against France and Italy because of a calf injury after dealing with leg problems during the Super Rugby Pacific season. He returned to rugby union late last year after spending a season with the Gold Coast Titans in rugby league, where a rare spinal condition limited him to one National Rugby League appearance.

Nine media also reported that Gordon is due to marry after returning to Australia this week. Australia remain unbeaten in four tests since Kiss replaced Joe Schmidt after the July internationals.
