Australian arrested in Thailand over teen's death in suitcase

Thai police arrested an Australian man at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport in connection with the murder of a 17-year-old Thai girl. The suspect, identified as Simon Peter Carman, in his 40s, was apprehended early Saturday as he was preparing to board a flight to Australia.

Carman is accused of murder, concealing a body, and abducting a minor for sexual exploitation. Police stated that surveillance footage showed Carman entering a residential building with the girl and leaving hours later carrying a suitcase. He allegedly placed the suitcase on a motorcycle and drove it to a grassy area near a railway track.

I am deeply shaken. My daughter did not have a mother, so when she needed something, she found a way to provide it herself. She always helped me too.

In a message conveyed to the victim's family before being transferred to court, Carman said, "I am sorry for what happened to your daughter. It was beyond my control." The victim's father, Tongchai Donhomla, described his profound sorrow, while her stepmother, Oradi Busarakum, demanded the death penalty for the suspect, stating she wanted him to face the full consequences of his actions.
