Austrian Housing Associations Demand New Funding for Affordable Living

Non-profit housing associations in Austria are urgently seeking new financial avenues to preserve affordable housing options. These organizations, which play a crucial role in stabilizing the housing market, convened in Graz for their annual meeting to address the challenges ahead.

Representatives from approximately 300 member cooperatives and non-profit companies gathered to discuss the future of affordable living. A key focus of the discussions was the ongoing decarbonization of the existing housing stock, an area where these associations have already made significant progress.

The primary concern voiced by the Gemeinnützige Bauvereinigungen (GBV-Verband) is the need for political support to safeguard their operational model. They argue that without new funding mechanisms, their ability to provide reasonably priced housing could be compromised, impacting a significant segment of the Austrian population.
