Austrian Post acquires Serbian courier D Express to form leading delivery service

Austrian Post has officially acquired a 100 percent stake in the Serbian courier service D Express, a move that signals a significant expansion for the company in the Balkan region. The acquisition includes D Express's 27 delivery bases, its staff, and all existing customer contracts across Serbia.

This strategic move involves merging D Express with City Express, a courier service Austrian Post has owned since 2007. The company anticipates that combining the strengths of both operations will establish a dominant player in the Serbian market, enhancing its competitive position and opening new avenues for growth. Austrian Post CEO Walter Oblin highlighted the acquisition as a key step in the company's international expansion strategy, emphasizing the goal to create added value through expertise and a strong local presence.

Founded in 2008, D Express has become a notable presence in Serbia, handling approximately 14 million parcels last year. The company employs 1,300 people and operates a fleet of 800 delivery vehicles, supported by 35 parcel shops and over 300 automated parcel lockers. Last year's turnover reached around 36 million euros. While the financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed, its finalization is contingent upon approval from the relevant regulatory authorities.
