Author Tara Menon Cheers for Croatia and Luka Modrić While Promoting Debut Novel

Author Tara Menon, whose debut novel "Pod morem" was recently presented at the Hoću knjigu bookstore in Kaptol Centar, was observed intently following the England vs. Croatia football match. Her strong support for the Croatian team stems from her admiration for Luka Modrić, whom she considers her favorite player.

Menon elaborated on her reasons for supporting Modrić, highlighting his "creative genius" and his ability to control the game, likening him to players like Zidane. She appreciates his role as a playmaker who understands his teammates' strengths and facilitates their success. "I love players who create opportunities for others, who are like conductors on the field," she stated.

Beyond his skill, Menon also admires Modrić for embodying the "character and tenacity" often associated with the Croatian national team. She pointed to his unwavering determination and work ethic, noting his performance in past tournaments despite his age. "He never gives up, his work ethic, fighting spirit, and dedication are incredible," she shared.

While primarily a rugby and basketball enthusiast, Menon's interest in football intensified during the pandemic, influenced by her husband, a devoted Liverpool fan. "I started following football much more intensely during the pandemic and since then I've become almost obsessed with it," she admitted.

Her novel, "Pod morem," delves into the emotional journey of six-year-old Marissa, who finds solace in a friendship with Arielle on a Thai island after her mother's death. Their bond is shattered by the devastating 2004 tsunami. Years later, living in New York as another storm approaches, Marissa confronts her past, grappling with loss and the enduring impact of that fateful event.
