Authorities dismantle meth lab in Chihuahua capable of producing 100 kilograms a day

A suspected methamphetamine laboratory capable of producing up to 100 kilograms a day has been located and secured near Parral, Chihuahua, in a joint operation by the state security secretariat and Mexico’s Defense Secretariat.

The Chihuahua government said the site emerged from intelligence work and aerial surveillance by the state security authorities. Officials identified structures hidden among vegetation, along with storage areas and cargo vehicles. State and military personnel then carried out a ground operation involving intelligence officers and special forces.

The operation uncovered an installation allegedly used to process synthetic drugs. Authorities found tons of chemicals and precursor materials, as well as infrastructure they said was intended for methamphetamine production. Preliminary calculations put the facility’s capacity at as much as 100 kilograms a day, equivalent to about 100,000 daily doses under the official estimate.

After confirming the discovery, authorities notified Mexico’s Federal Attorney General’s Office and began forensic procedures. State and federal agencies coordinated to preserve the chain of custody for the areas and materials found at the site.

Chihuahua Governor Maru Campos praised the operation and credited the state security secretariat’s intelligence and surveillance work, as well as its coordination with the Defense Secretariat. She said the action formed part of efforts against the production and distribution of synthetic drugs and highlighted the state’s Centinela Platform, a prevention and intelligence system used to detect facilities linked to criminal activity. “That is the difference between a government that reacts and a government that anticipates,” Campos said.
