Automatic Cars in Argentina: Prices and Market Trends Amidst Sales Decline

The Argentine automotive market experienced a significant downturn in July, with new vehicle registrations falling by 30.3% compared to the same month last year, totaling 43,758 units. This marks a 7.7% decrease from June's figures, according to the Association of Automobile Dealers of the Argentine Republic (Acara). Year-to-date sales from January to July stand at 339,359 units, reflecting a 12.8% drop from the 389,367 units registered in the first seven months of 2025.

Amidst this market contraction, automakers have employed various strategies for August. While five models priced in pesos saw increases between 0.6% and 2%, four vehicles quoted in U.S. dollars maintained their prices. An exception was the JMEV Easy 3, which saw its price decrease by 10.6% in foreign currency, dropping from $18,900 to $16,900.

The JMEV Easy 3, a Chinese-origin all-electric urban hatchback, continues to lead as the most economical automatic car in Argentina. Powered by a 68 hp motor, it offers a declared range of up to 330 kilometers. It is followed by the Hyundai HB20 Hatchback, imported from Brazil. Its Comfort Plus version, equipped with a 1.6-liter, 123 hp gasoline engine and a six-speed automatic transmission, saw a modest 0.6% price increase from July.

The gasoline-powered MG 3 holds the third position. This variant features a 1.5-liter, 114 hp engine paired with a CVT automatic transmission, distinguishing it from the hybrid version also available in Argentina. The MG 3 combustion version is priced at $21,900. The JAC S2, a compact SUV with a 1.5-liter, 105 hp gasoline engine and CVT transmission, climbed from sixth to fourth place, maintaining its $22,900 price tag, though its peso equivalent decreased due to exchange rate fluctuations.

Rounding out the top five is the Citroën C3, manufactured in Brazil. The Feel Pack version utilizes the 1.6 VTi gasoline engine producing 115 hp, coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission. Its price increased by 2% in August, moving it from fourth to fifth place in the ranking.
