Automatic Cars Under $25 Million Now Available in Argentina

Automatic transmission cars, once a luxury perceived as costly and less reliable, are rapidly becoming a mainstream option in Argentina. For years, these vehicles were associated with higher prices, increased fuel consumption, and more complex maintenance compared to their manual counterparts. However, significant technological evolution over the past decade has transformed the landscape.

Modern automatic gearboxes, including conventional types, Continuously Variable Transmissions (CVTs), and dual-clutch systems (DSG), now offer enhanced efficiency, reduced fuel consumption, and a significantly more comfortable driving experience, particularly in urban traffic. This technological leap coincided with a broader increase in the availability of automatic models and a relative decrease in their used market prices.

Consequently, it is now feasible to acquire several automatic car models from 2016 for less than 25 million Argentine pesos, and in some cases, even less than the cost of a brand-new entry-level vehicle. The variety of available transmissions highlights the advancements: while some models feature traditional torque converter automatics, others incorporate newer technologies like CVTs, favored by brands such as Toyota and Nissan for smoothness and economy, or Volkswagen's sporty and rapid DSG systems. Peugeot and Citroën, meanwhile, utilized six-speed conventional automatics developed with European partners.

Beyond comfort, improved fuel efficiency has been a key driver of automatic transmission popularity. With more gear ratios, sophisticated electronics, and refined calibration, modern automatics often match or even surpass the fuel economy of manual versions. This shift has also influenced consumer perception in Argentina, where automatic transmissions are increasingly in demand, especially in SUVs and mid-size vehicles, with many models now seeing the majority of their sales in automatic variants.
