Avianca Moves More Than 500 Tons of Humanitarian Aid Across Colombia

More than 500 tons of humanitarian aid have reached emergency-affected areas in Colombia through Avianca’s air network. The airline has used cargo aircraft, regular passenger flights and charter operations to move essential supplies, rescue equipment, medical staff and international shipments.

The operation has involved more than 60 flights and has carried over 230 rescue workers and medical professionals to places where they are needed. Ángela María Orozco, Avianca’s senior vice president for corporate affairs, said the scale of the emergency required cooperation inside and outside Colombia. She highlighted the role of air connections in linking assistance and expertise with affected communities.

Grupo Abra has added logistical capacity through a partnership with Gol, one of its airlines. The arrangement transported 40 tons of aid and operated two cargo flights between Bogotá and Armenia. A B737 freighter from São Paulo also operated for the first time at Armenia Airport, expanding the available capacity for shipments to affected areas.

Avianca has also organized daily humanitarian cargo shipments to Quibdó through its regular flight to the region. The airline said this approach integrated existing commercial routes into the emergency response.

International cooperation has formed another part of the effort. More than 10 tons of aid provided by the governments of Spain and France were transported to support communities affected by the emergency. Avianca also helped move singers and football players taking part in fundraising activities, including the “Voices for Life” concert and a match featuring football legends.
