Avianca Transports Over 150 Tons of Aid After Colombia Earthquake

Avianca has mobilized significant resources to aid communities affected by a recent earthquake in Colombia, transporting over 150 tons of humanitarian aid in the first two days following the disaster. The airline utilized its cargo and passenger operations to expedite the delivery of essential supplies.

The operation involved five flights, utilizing both specialized cargo aircraft, including three Airbus A330Fs, and passenger planes. These flights originated from Bogotá, San Salvador, and Barranquilla, with destinations in Cali and Armenia, key cities in the affected region. This swift logistical response aimed to accelerate the arrival of critical resources to those in need.

Among the 150 tons of aid were vital supplies such as food, medicine, water, diapers, and blankets. The cargo also included infant formula, baby bottles, and medical equipment, all intended to support the immediate needs of the populations impacted by the earthquake. The initiative was coordinated with various entities, including the First Lady of Colombia's office for one of the initial flights.

Ángela María Orozco, Avianca's Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs, affirmed the airline's continued commitment. "We will continue to contribute to ensure that aid reaches the communities that need it most," she stated, highlighting the dedication of Avianca's teams in deploying their operational capabilities for disaster relief. The airline emphasized that air connectivity and cargo logistics are crucial tools for rapid emergency response.
