Awoniyi joins Onyeka at Coventry

Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi is on the verge of signing for Coventry City, joining fellow Nigerian Frank Onyeka at the newly-promoted Premier League club. Reports indicate that Coventry City and Nottingham Forest have reached a club-to-club agreement for the forward's permanent transfer.

Awoniyi is currently undergoing a medical ahead of his official unveiling. He won the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup with Nigeria and will become the second Super Eagles player signed by Coventry manager Frank Lampard since their promotion, following Onyeka's arrival from Brentford.

Onyeka completed his permanent move to Coventry after an impressive loan spell, contributing one goal and one assist in 14 Championship matches, playing a key role in the club's promotion-winning campaign that ended a 25-year absence from the Premier League.

During his four-year tenure at Nottingham Forest, Awoniyi scored 23 goals and provided six assists in 103 appearances across all competitions. The 29-year-old had entered the final year of his contract at the City Ground. With Onyeka already established at Coventry, Awoniyi is expected to provide valuable top-flight experience as the team prepares for the Premier League season.
