Ayo Entity honored as African Global Entertainment Icon

Ayo Magbagbeola, a prominent entertainment entrepreneur and founder of Diaspora Ball, has been named the African Global Entertainment Icon of the Year 2026 by the African Global Excellence Awards (AGEA).

The award celebrates Magbagbeola's substantial contributions to Africa's entertainment, lifestyle, and cultural landscape. His event, Diaspora Ball, has become a major attraction during Lagos's "Detty December" celebrations, fostering connections and showcasing African creativity. AGEA convener Victor Udoh described Magbagbeola as a visionary who has redefined entertainment experiences while promoting tourism, investment, and global appreciation for African culture.

The award recognises individuals whose creativity, leadership and influence continue to shape Africa’s creative economy.

Udoh emphasized that the selection process was merit-based, assessing Magbagbeola's industry impact, commitment to African culture, and efforts in strengthening ties between the continent and its diaspora. The AGEA organizers noted that recipients are chosen based on measurable achievements without requiring nomination or acceptance fees.

Magbagbeola is slated to receive the award at the AGEA ceremony on October 31, 2026, at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The event is expected to draw a diverse audience of government officials, business leaders, diplomats, media professionals, and entertainment figures from across Africa. Preparations are also underway for the second edition of Diaspora Ball, scheduled for December 2026 in Lagos.
