B.C. Lions name McKnight special teams coordinator

The B.C. Lions have named veteran coach Dennis McKnight as their new special teams coordinator, the CFL club announced Monday. McKnight's appointment comes as the team returns from a bye week. He brings a wealth of experience to the role, having spent five seasons with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, including serving as special teams coordinator in 2024 and 2025. His coaching resume also includes a stint as running backs coach for the Edmonton Eskimos in 2011, as well as coaching positions in the XFL and with several NCAA programs, such as the University of Hawaii and San Diego State.

The Lions made this change after parting ways with their previous special teams coordinator, Cory McDiarmid, on June 28. This decision followed a difficult start to the season, where the team suffered three consecutive losses. Currently, the B.C. Lions hold a 1-3 record. They are set to resume play on Friday, facing the Edmonton Elks, who have a strong 4-1 record, in Edmonton.
