B.C.'s historic Little Red House destroyed by fire

A historic home in the Township of Langley, British Columbia, popularly known as the Little Red House, has been consumed by fire. The structure, officially named McIver House, had stood for nearly 140 years before its destruction early Thursday morning.

Built by Murdoch and Annie McIver between 1887 and 1890, the Gothic-style farmhouse was a beloved local landmark. Its picturesque setting amidst a turf farm made it "one of the most photographed and painted" homes in the region, evoking a sense of simpler times for many.

So many people photographed, painted and stopped to admire this house over the years, and now these images capture its final moments.

Township of Langley councillor Rob Rindt shared videos of the blaze, describing the destruction as "incredibly sad." He noted the countless people who had stopped to admire and capture images of the house over the years.

According to the Township of Langley's archives, the house was built to replace an earlier, smaller log cabin. It remained occupied until the early 1990s but had been uninhabited and deteriorating by 2010. The Langley Heritage Society lamented the loss, stating in a social media post that it was "sad and unfortunate" the home was never preserved.
