Back to school in Ecuador’s Sierra-Amazon region begins in stages: Here is the schedule

The new school year has begun in Ecuador’s Sierra-Amazon region, but students are not returning to classrooms all at once. Public schools are bringing them back in stages from September 1 through September 3, according to grade level.

On September 1, children in Initial education, including three- and four-year-olds, returned alongside students in the first, second and third years of Bachillerato. On September 2, the schedule moves to Preparatoria, or first grade, and upper-basic education, covering eighth, ninth and 10th grades.

The process ends on September 3, when students in elementary basic education, from second through fourth grade, and middle basic education, from fifth through seventh grade, enter. Some private schools began their activities gradually on August 24, provided they meet the required number of working days.

Quito has also prepared school uniforms for the new academic period. The city’s Education, Sport and Culture Subsecretariat acquired 120,899 uniform kits, intended to benefit 140,271 students at 332 schools in Zone 9. The investment totaled $4,020,602.98.

Under current rules, the uniforms go to students at rural public institutions from Initial through the third year of Bachillerato. Initial students at urban public schools are also included.
