Back-to-School Shopping Gets More Expensive. We Checked Where Supplies Cost the Least

Preparing for the new school year is becoming more expensive, with the schoolbag alone accounting for as much as 63 percent of the cost of a child’s equipment.

A model shopping basket comes to 1,111 Czech koruna when assembled from the lowest prices found at Kaufland, Lidl, Globus and other retail chains. The actual amount families pay, however, will be higher because the model does not capture the full cost of the schoolbag.

The comparison examines where parents can buy school supplies most cheaply as they prepare for the start of school.
