Bad Bunny wins his first Emmy for Super Bowl halftime show

Bad Bunny has won his first Emmy, taking the prize for a Super Bowl halftime show that made history even before the awards ceremony began. The Puerto Rican singer received the honor Saturday night at the Creative Arts Emmys in Los Angeles, ahead of the televised ceremony scheduled for Sept. 14.

The show, titled The Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show Starring Bad Bunny, collected seven awards from nine nominations. Along with Bad Bunny’s recognition, it won for musical direction, choreography, sound mixing, technical direction, lighting design and special-program direction.

The performance became the most nominated Super Bowl halftime show in the history of the awards, surpassing the record Lady Gaga had held since 2017. Brazilian musician Miguel Gandelman won for musical direction, while Charm La’Donna and Karina Ortiz received the choreography award in the variety-program category.

Bad Bunny’s halftime show carried a broader message about the meaning of America. During the performance, which took place at a game between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots, he argued that America refers to the entire continent, not only the United States. He ended by shouting, “God bless America!” while holding an American football marked “Together we’re America.” A parade featured the flags and names of countries across the continent, from Chile to Canada.

Lady Gaga appeared as a guest, performing a salsa version of her song with Bruno Mars, Die with a Smile, and dancing with Bad Bunny during Baile inolvidable. Puerto Rican singer Ricky Martin also joined the show, performing an acoustic version of Lo que le pasó a Hawái, a song that compares Puerto Rico’s gentrification and colonial status with Hawaii’s 19th-century annexation by the United States. An episode of Saturday Night Live hosted by Bad Bunny in October 2025 also won an Emmy for makeup.
