Badminton Worlds: Taiwanese pairs eye quarterfinal spots

Taiwanese badminton stars are making their mark at the World Championships, with eight pairs advancing to the round of 16 and aiming for quarterfinal berths. The competition is fierce as the island's top talent competes on the global stage.

Among the most anticipated matches is that of Taiwan's top singles player, Chou Tien-chen. He is set to compete against Japan's Yoshikazu Tanaka, ranked 19th in the world. Chou has a historical advantage, having won both of their previous encounters.

In men's doubles, the formidable pair of Wang Chi-lin and Lee Yang, also known as the "Lin-Je" combination, is scheduled to play against Malaysia's world No. 6 duo, Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin. This matchup is a rematch of their previous encounters, with each pair having secured one victory.

Another men's doubles team, Lee Jhe-huei and Yang Po-hsuan, will face Indonesia's Sabar Karyaman Gutama and Muhammad Reza Pahlevi Isfahani. The mixed doubles category also features strong Taiwanese representation, with Ye Hong-wei and Chang Chih-yuan taking on Indonesia's Amri Syahnawi and Nita Violina Marwah, a pair Taiwan previously defeated.

Yang Po-hsuan and Hu Ling-fang will challenge Denmark's third-seeded pair, Mathias Christiansen and Alexandra Bøje, in a challenging mixed doubles encounter. In women's doubles, Hung En-tzu and Hsieh Pei-shan will face China's Zhang Shuxian and Jia Yifan, while Sung Yu-hsuan and Hsu Ya-ching are set to compete against China's Luo Xuimin and Li Yijing. Lin Tzu-yun and Hsu Yi-hsin will play against Hong Kong's Yeung Pui Lam and Yeung Nga Ting.
