Baek passed away on the morning of the 15th at the age of 80, succumbing to cerebral hemorrhage while receiving treatment in the hospital's intensive care unit.

His condition had been critical since the previous day when he was transported to the hospital in cardiac arrest. Baek was a towering presence in the baseball world, boasting a distinguished career that spanned 23 years as a player in both the Korean and Japanese professional leagues. His exceptional hitting prowess, particularly his .400 batting average in the 1982 season, earned him his iconic moniker.
