Balaraja plastic factory fire still burning after 48 hours, forcing 33 families to evacuate

A fire at a plastic factory in Balaraja, Tangerang, continued burning after 48 hours, forcing authorities to temporarily evacuate 33 nearby families.

The fire at PT Technoplastika Prima Perdana in Sentul Jaya village was first reported at about 12:08 p.m. on Sunday. By 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, firefighters were still battling flames that had intensified again in several areas.

Firefighters remain on standby to put out the fire. There are currently seven units, compared with 12 at the beginning, and about 35 personnel.

Tangerang’s Regional Disaster Management Agency deployed seven fire trucks and 35 personnel. The agency had initially sent 12 vehicles, but crews remained on standby as they worked to put out the remaining fire.

For now, one house was hit by part of the factory building. Others are still staying at home, while some have gone to stay with family.

Agency chief Achmad Taufik said smoke from the factory fire led to the evacuation of 33 families. One resident’s house was struck by debris from the collapsing factory structure, while other residents either stayed home or moved in with relatives.

Taufik said the large amount of flammable material had made firefighting more difficult. He expressed hope that the fire would be extinguished that day, saying it had already declined from the previous day. The disaster agency estimated the damage at Rp10 billion.
