Folarin Balogun became a hero for the host nation, scoring two goals to secure a dominant 4-1 victory for the United States against Paraguay in their opening group stage match.

The 24-year-old forward, whose parents hail from Nigeria and who grew up in England, represents a significant choice for the U.S. team. Balogun was born in Brooklyn due to a last-minute change of plans when his mother, seven months pregnant, was visiting relatives in the U.S. The family returned to London shortly after his birth.

Balogun, a product of Arsenal's youth academy, had previously represented England and the United States at the youth international level. He faced a critical decision regarding his senior national team career, with the option to play for England, the U.S., or his parents' native Nigeria.
