Balogun shines again, earns second Man of the Match award as USMNT advances in World Cup

Folarin Balogun is continuing his impressive run for the United States Men’s National Team, securing his second consecutive Man of the Match award at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. His latest accolade came after a standout performance in the USMNT's 2-0 victory against Australia, a win that clinched their spot in the tournament's knockout stage.

Balogun's relentless pressure on Australian defenders led to an own goal by Cameron Burgess in the 11th minute, opening the scoring for the USMNT. Throughout the match, his dynamic movement, effective hold-up play, and seamless link-up with teammates were instrumental in the co-hosts' dominance of possession and control of the game, even without star attacker Christian Pulisic.

This follows his explosive World Cup debut against Paraguay, where Balogun netted twice in a commanding 4-1 win. That performance marked him as the first American to score a brace in a World Cup match since 1930 and earned him his first Man of the Match honor.

Born in New York to Nigerian parents and raised in England, Balogun possesses a unique international background. He was eligible to represent England, Nigeria, and the United States, ultimately choosing to play for the U.S. on the international stage.
