Bangladesh braces for five more days of rain as low pressure forms

Bangladesh is set to experience continued rainfall for the next five days, according to a forecast issued by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD). The monsoon is currently active over the country, bringing predictions of light to moderate rain and thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds.

The BMD bulletin indicates that many areas across the Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions will see rain, while Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, and Barishal divisions will experience it in fewer places. The department also warned of potentially heavy rainfall in certain areas. Day and night temperatures are expected to remain largely unchanged during this period.

Light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at many places over Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at a few places over Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna and Barishal divisions with moderately heavy falls at places over the country.

Adding to the weather concerns, a low-pressure area has formed over the Northwest Bay and adjoining West Bengal-North Odisha coasts. This system is predicted to move west-northwestwards. The axis of the monsoon trough runs across southern Bangladesh, connecting Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar to Assam.

In response to the developing low pressure, maritime ports in Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla, and Payra have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal No 3. This measure is a precaution against potential squally weather affecting the maritime ports, the North Bay, and adjacent coastal areas. All fishing boats and trawlers operating in the North Bay have been urged to return closer to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.
