Bangladesh PM Seeks Chinese Support for Development Projects in Beijing Meeting

Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman met with Liu Haixing, Minister of International Affairs of the Communist Party of China (CPC), in Beijing to discuss bilateral cooperation and investment. The meeting, held at the State Diaoyutai Guest House, focused on seeking China's support for Bangladesh's development initiatives.

He recalled that former prime minister Khaleda Zia had visited China nine times and said a photograph from her 2001 visit is preserved at the Museum of the Communist Party of China in recognition of her contributions to bilateral relations.

Rahman specifically requested Chinese assistance for the construction of the proposed China-Bangladesh Friendship Hospital. Liu Haixing congratulated Rahman on his recent assumption of office and recalled former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia's nine visits to China, noting a photograph from her 2001 visit is preserved at the Museum of the Communist Party of China in recognition of her contributions to bilateral relations.

Liu expressed interest in further strengthening communication and cooperation between the CPC and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). He suggested exploring new areas of collaboration, including media, think-tank exchanges, and people-to-people contacts, all aimed at improving living standards in Bangladesh. The Chinese leader reaffirmed China's commitment to supporting Bangladesh's sovereignty, security, and development, emphasizing the importance of mutual respect and cooperation.

Several ministers and officials from Bangladesh, including Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon and Water Resources Minister Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, were present. Chinese officials, including Sun Haiyan, vice minister of the International Department of the CPC, and the Chinese ambassador to Bangladesh, also attended the meeting.
