Bangladesh PM seeks 'conducive environment' to reset ties with India

Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called for a "conducive environment" to boost ties with India, signaling his six-month-old government's efforts to stabilize relations with its largest neighbor. The remarks came during his first meeting with the new Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Dinesh Trivedi.

Dhaka is also pressing New Delhi to expedite the extradition of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Hasina, who has been living in India since her government's fall, faces legal proceedings and a death sentence in Bangladesh. Her continued presence and political activities in India have drawn strong criticism from Dhaka, particularly after she interacted with the media and reiterated her intention to return to Bangladesh in December.

The Bangladesh foreign ministry expressed outrage over Hasina being given the opportunity to hold the media event, calling it "deeply hurtful." India, however, has stated that it is examining Bangladesh's extradition request in accordance with its legal and judicial procedures.
