Bangladesh Prioritizes Respectful Partnership with India, President Says

Bangladesh places significant value on its relationship with India, viewing it as its closest neighbor and a crucial partner for trade and development. President Mohammed Shahabuddin articulated this sentiment during a meeting with India's newly appointed High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Dinesh Trivedi, at the Bangabhaban. "Bangladesh is committed to maintaining a respectful and forward-looking partnership with India while upholding sovereign equality, national interest, dignity and public welfare," President Shahabuddin stated. He conveyed his hope that Trivedi's appointment would serve to further bolster bilateral ties, making them more advantageous for both nations. The president also highlighted the necessity of enhancing connections between their citizens and pursuing constructive initiatives to resolve pending issues, including those related to the border. High Commissioner Trivedi affirmed the friendly nature of the relationship between Bangladesh and India. He reiterated New Delhi's commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation. Regarding border matters, Trivedi noted the recent productive discussions between senior officials of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and India's Border Security Force (BSF). He suggested that such regular meetings are vital for the swift resolution of border-related concerns. President Shahabuddin reciprocated the greetings conveyed by Trivedi from India's president and leadership. He sought the cooperation of both the government and the people of Bangladesh during his term, and Shahabuddin assured him of full support in strengthening the ties between the two neighboring countries.
