Bangladesh to host national student football tournament Sept 10-Oct 30

Bangladesh is set to host the Prime Minister’s Gold Cup National Football Tournament, a significant sporting event for students. Scheduled from September 10 to October 30, the tournament will involve students from classes 6 to 12 across schools, colleges, madrasas, and technical institutions nationwide.

Participation is mandatory for boys and optional for girls. Approximately 50,000 institutions are expected to field teams. The competition will progress through upazila, district, divisional, and national stages. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is slated to attend the opening match and the finals, underscoring the event's importance.

Mahdi Amin, the Prime Minister’s Adviser and PMO spokesperson, stated the goal is to create a festive atmosphere and build an education system that nurtures student talent, intellect, and creativity. The education, youth and sports, and cultural affairs ministries will collaborate on organizing year-round programs and competitions.

Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon highlighted the tournament's role in developing leadership, discipline, creativity, and team spirit. He emphasized that it provides equal opportunities for students from remote areas to showcase their abilities. The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education is also soliciting entries for the tournament's logo, reels, mascot, slogan, and theme song.
