Bank Employee, Store Manager Honored for Foiling Voice Phishing Scams

A bank employee and a convenience store manager in Yongin, South Korea, have been recognized for their vigilance in preventing voice phishing incidents. Both individuals received commendations and rewards from the Yongin Seobu Police for their quick actions.

The bank employee, identified as Ms. A from NH Nonghyup Bank's Suji Dongcheon Financial Center, became suspicious when a customer requested to withdraw 8 million won in cash for a remittance. During the transaction, the customer provided unclear answers about the purpose of the transfer and showed KakaoTalk messages with an acquaintance. Suspecting an investment scam, Ms. A immediately contacted the police, successfully preventing the loss of 8 million won.

In a situation where voice phishing methods are becoming increasingly diverse and sophisticated, citizens' careful attention and prompt reporting played a decisive role in preventing damage.

Similarly, Mr. B, the manager of a GS25 convenience store in Eonnam Jungang, reported a customer attempting to purchase a large number of gift cards. His suspicion led to police intervention, averting a potential loss of 2.8 million won.
