Bank of America to buy UK's MDSec Consulting to bolster cyber defenses

Bank of America announced plans to acquire MDSec Consulting Ltd., an information security firm based in England, to bolster its defenses against increasingly sophisticated cyber threats. The deal, expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026 pending regulatory approval, comes as companies globally grapple with a surge in AI-driven cyberattacks and ransomware. MDSec, headquartered in Macclesfield, England, employs approximately 65 cybersecurity professionals and offers specialized consultancy services. This move expands Bank of America's existing significant presence in Northern England, where it already employs over 1,400 people in Chester and operates one of its cyber threat operations centers. The White House recently initiated a coordination group to foster information sharing on cybersecurity vulnerabilities between AI developers and critical infrastructure operators.
