Bank of Vietnam Union, Quang Ninh Union to clash in Northern finals of Workers' Football Championship

The Northern qualifying round of the 2026 Vietnam Workers' Football Championship has reached its climax, with the Bank of Vietnam Union and Quang Ninh Union emerging as the top two teams to contest the final. The semi-final matches, held on May 24, saw decisive victories for both finalists.

The Bank of Vietnam Union showcased a dominant performance, defeating the Hai Phong Union with a commanding 4-0 scoreline. The presence of former V-League player Nguyen Viet Phong appeared to bolster the bank's team, enabling them to control the game and secure a comfortable win. The team's offensive strategy, with Nguyen Anh Son playing a more advanced role, led to an early breakthrough.

In contrast, the Quang Ninh Union faced a tougher challenge in their semi-final match against Petro Vietnam Union. They secured their spot in the final with a solitary goal from Nguyen Manh Cuong, highlighting a hard-fought victory. The Quang Ninh team, also known as the "mining team," managed to edge past their opponents to set up the final showdown.

The championship, now in its fourth year, is a collaborative effort between the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, Tuoi Tre newspaper, and the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF). It aims to promote sports and cultural activities among workers nationwide. This year's tournament features 48 teams and offers a total prize pool of 900 million Vietnamese dong, with the national champion receiving 200 million dong. The final match is set to take place on May 24, 2026, at the Xuan Dinh Ward Culture, Information, and Sports Center in Hanoi.
