Barcelona open Liga F campaign with a 5-0 rout of Tenerife

Barcelona’s women made an emphatic start to the Liga F season, defeating Costa Adeje Tenerife 5-0 at the Johan Cruyff stadium.

Tenerife opened with five defenders and four midfielders, surrendering possession and looking for chances on the counterattack. Barcelona worked around the crowded center and created openings from the wings, but the visitors held out for more than half an hour.

Caroline Graham Hansen finally broke the resistance in the 27th minute, running onto Claudia Pina’s pass between the lines and finishing inside the area. Pina added the second 12 minutes later with a low shot from the edge of the box, sending Barcelona into halftime with a 2-0 lead.

Barcelona ended the contest quickly after the restart. Ewa Pajor headed in Graham Hansen’s cross, Renee van Asten followed after the Tenerife goalkeeper failed to clear a previous shot, and Irene Paredes completed the scoring from close range after a corner in the 62nd minute.

The result matched Barcelona’s ambition under coach Pere Romeu, who is seeking an eighth consecutive domestic title. Van Asten also marked her first start after recovering from an overload in time for the opener.
