BARMM, GCash embark on online public cash assistance scheme

The Ministry of Social Services and Development-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (MSSD-BARMM) has partnered with GCash, a leading mobile wallet provider, to launch the Financial Assistance System Transformation (FAST) program. This initiative aims to revolutionize the distribution of cash assistance to beneficiaries of the region's humanitarian programs.

The FAST program will streamline the process of delivering funds to recipients across the five provinces and three cities within the BARMM. Beneficiaries will be issued customized GCash cards, which will serve a dual purpose as identification and a cashless payment medium, similar to standard ATM cards. These cards will allow recipients to withdraw funds from any bank's automated teller machines.

This will cut lengthy bureaucratic procedures in facilitating the release of funds for beneficiaries.

Officials from both MSSD-BARMM and GCash highlighted the program's potential to significantly reduce bureaucratic delays in fund disbursement. The launch event, held in Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao del Norte, was attended by key figures from both organizations, including MSSD-BARMM Director-General Mohammad Muktadir Ahmad Estrella and GCash General Manager for Business Paul Vincent Albano. This collaboration marks a significant step towards digitalizing social welfare services in the region, with GCash officials noting it as the first of its kind in Mindanao.
