Baruta mayor reports Corpoelec working to restore power after rain disruptions

Darwin González, the mayor of Baruta, announced on Sunday that the national electric corporation, Corpoelec, has deployed crews to address power outages caused by heavy rainfall overnight. The disruptions affected various areas within the municipality.

Earlier in the morning, Mayor González had alerted residents about the rising levels of the Guaire River, particularly near Avenida Río de Janeiro in Las Mercedes, following intense precipitation that began Saturday night. Municipal civil protection teams continued to patrol ravines and rivers as part of active prevention protocols, and residents were urged to take precautions.

The community also reported other issues requiring attention through the mayor's social media channels. These included exposed electrical wiring near the Torre Río de Janeiro, caused by tree roots lifting a manhole cover, a hazard residents claim has existed for years. Some residents used the reports to request that personnel assigned to the electrical fault assist crews in El Hatillo, which they claimed were insufficient to handle similar failures in that neighboring municipality.

Additionally, some residents called for preventive maintenance and the installation of pumping systems for manholes in Baruta and other areas of Greater Caracas, in anticipation of future rainy seasons. The situation highlights the ongoing challenges of infrastructure resilience in the face of adverse weather conditions.
