Basketball Bundesliga: Braunschweig basketball players extend with coach

The Basketball Löwen Braunschweig has secured its coach, Ramon Diaz, for the next two seasons, with an option for a third. This decision comes after Diaz successfully guided the team to avoid relegation from the Bundesliga.

Diaz took over as head coach in February and managed to lead the team to a crucial 17th-place finish in the league standings. This was achieved through four vital home victories towards the end of the season. Although finishing second-to-last would typically result in relegation, Braunschweig was granted a wildcard spot in the league.

This wildcard became available because the second-division team Kirchheim Knights did not apply for a license to compete in the Bundesliga. Consequently, Braunschweig, as the highest-ranking team eligible for the wildcard, retained its place in the top flight.

"I am very happy to continue the work I started in Braunschweig and am grateful for the trust of the club officials around Dennis Schröder and Nils Mittmann," Diaz stated. "This is by no means a matter of course after the past season, as we did not achieve our sporting goal. We want to take the opportunity to do better in the new season even more."
