Basketball: Serbian power forward Borisa Simanic joins Germany's Syntainics MBC

German basketball club Syntainics MBC has completed its roster for the upcoming season with the signing of Serbian power forward Borisa Simanic. Simanic joins the Bundesliga team from Bosnian powerhouse KK Igokea Aleksandrovac on a one-year deal.

His arrival reunites him with Syntainics head coach Vladimir Jovanovic, who previously coached Simanic during the second half of the 2017/18 season at FMP Belgrade. This familiarity is expected to aid Simanic's integration into the team.

Simanic gained significant public attention following a severe injury during the 2023 FIBA World Cup. In a preliminary round game against South Sudan, he was elbowed in the abdomen by opponent Nuni Omot, leading to life-threatening complications that necessitated the removal of one of his kidneys. He spent a year recovering before returning to the court.

Prior to his move to Germany, Simanic enjoyed a decorated career in Serbia. He won four Serbian league championships, two national cups, and three ABA League titles with Crvena Zvezda Belgrade. He also secured one league title and one cup with Aleksandrovac.
