Batken Region Windstorm Damage Estimated at 16 Million Som

Batken region in Kyrgyzstan is assessing approximately 16 million som in damages following a severe windstorm that struck on June 27. The powerful gusts, recorded at speeds of 27-28 meters per second, wreaked havoc across the region, tearing off roofs from residential buildings and social infrastructure.

In response to the emergency, an urgent meeting of the regional civil protection commission was convened. First Deputy Presidential Envoy Baktibek Toksonbaev has directed relevant services to maintain close communication with affected residents. The focus is on promptly resolving emerging issues and expediting the restoration of damaged social facilities and state-owned properties, including accelerating insurance processes.

Medical assistance is also a priority, with the regional Center for Family Medicine and healthcare institutions instructed to provide timely care to the two individuals injured by the storm. Cleanup and restoration efforts are ongoing throughout the region as authorities work to ascertain the full extent of the damage and repair affected structures.

Residents have been urged by local authorities to remain vigilant, monitor weather warnings from Kyrgyzhydromet, and adhere to safety precautions during periods of strong wind. They are advised to avoid areas near old trees, power lines, and flimsy structures, and to contact emergency services immediately if they encounter any hazardous situations.
