Bauchi APC Crisis Deepens as Former Deputy Governor and Aspirants Leave Party Ahead of 2027

The unresolved crisis within Nigeria’s All Progressives Congress in Bauchi State has deepened, with prominent party figures and former election aspirants resigning ahead of the 2027 general election.

Those reported to have left include former Bauchi Deputy Governor Sagir Aminu Saleh, two-time APC governorship aspirant Captain Muhammad Bala Jibrin, and Sunusi Aliyu Kunde, a close associate of former Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Maitama Tuggar. Other members, including Ahmed Shuaibu, known as Raba Gardama, may also leave, although that report had not been independently confirmed.

The resignations came despite reconciliation efforts, including a state committee led by former House of Representatives Speaker Yakubu Dogara. Aggrieved members have accused the party leadership of injustice, a lack of internal democracy and imposing candidates during primaries for the 2027 elections.

Saleh formally resigned in a letter dated Aug. 19, 2026, citing personal reasons. Jibrin, writing on Aug. 31, said his resignation and withdrawal of support took immediate effect. Kunde said he was resigning “with a heavy heart.”

Other departures included Katagum Federal Constituency aspirant Tijjani Mohammed Aliyu, who alleged that primaries involved predetermined results, vote allocation and violations of party guidelines. Abubakar Dahuwa Abdulkadir also withdrew his membership, alleging that the party failed to hold a planned direct primary for the Azare/Madangala State Assembly constituency. Sulaiman Sunusi Lalaye, Sani Muhammad Night, Rabi’u Abubakar Bishi and Mohammed Bakoji Maiwada were also reported to have left.
