Bauchi APM LG polls victory a warning to opposition – Mohammed

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has declared the victory of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in the recent local government elections a significant warning to opposition parties. Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony for the 20 newly elected local government chairmen, Mohammed asserted that their win signals strong public endorsement of his administration's policies and programs.

Governor Mohammed stressed that local government administration is no longer about distributing funds but about effective governance and addressing the needs of the people at the grassroots. "The position of the local government is no longer a cash drawer where we go and share money. We go there to face challenges because the required human capacity, trust and confidence of the people must be earned," he emphasized.

He sternly warned the newly elected chairmen against mismanaging public funds, particularly with the newfound financial autonomy granted to local governments. "You should not be tempted to misappropriate or divert local government funds. With financial autonomy now granted to local governments to run their affairs, you have no excuse," Mohammed cautioned. He also urged them to collaborate with traditional rulers, security agencies, and other stakeholders to maintain peace and security, ensuring prompt reporting of security threats.
