Bauchi assembly majority leader resigns, eyes LG chairmanship

Saleh Hodi, the Majority Leader of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, has resigned from his position representing the Disina Constituency. His departure is to pursue a candidacy for the Shira Local Government chairmanship in the upcoming elections. Hodi has served as a member of the House since his initial election in 2019.

The House received a letter from the Honourable Saleh Hodi formally notifying us of his resignation as the member representing Disina Constituency.

The Speaker of the House, Abubakar Sulaiman, formally announced Hodi's resignation during a plenary session on Wednesday, confirming that the House had received a formal letter detailing his decision. Hodi's move follows his nomination by the Allied People’s Movement as their candidate for the local government chairmanship.

In his farewell remarks, Hodi conveyed his appreciation to the Speaker and fellow House members for their cooperation, guidance, and support throughout his term. He also thanked the people of Disina Constituency and stakeholders in Shira for their confidence and support in his candidacy for the chairmanship. "My experience in this House has been memorable, and I’m grateful for the opportunity given to me to serve my constituents and contribute to the development of Bauchi State," Hodi stated.

Following Hodi's resignation, the Allied People’s Movement nominated Auwal Yana to serve as the new Majority Leader. Speaker Sulaiman described Hodi as a respected colleague with whom he shared a close relationship, extending beyond their professional association. Other lawmakers also lauded Hodi, characterizing him as a role model admired for his patience, dedication, and selflessness, and wished him success in his upcoming election. Yana, in his acceptance speech, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve as a principal officer of the House.
