Bauchi Governor mourns late lawmaker Wanzam Kafi

Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, expressed deep shock and sorrow following the death of Hon Wanzam Mohammad Zaki. Zaki represented the Sakwa Constituency in the Bauchi State House of Assembly and served as the Chairman of the House Committee on Budget and Appropriation. He passed away early Sunday morning in Bauchi at the age of 60, after a short illness.

In a condolence message issued on Sunday, Governor Mohammed, through his media aide Mukhtar Gidado, described the late lawmaker as a dedicated legislator, a humble leader, and a committed public servant. He highlighted that Zaki's life was characterized by simplicity, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the welfare of his constituents and the overall development of Bauchi State.

Governor Mohammed noted Zaki's distinguished service in the State House of Assembly, where he demonstrated diligence, maturity, and patriotism. His role as chairman of the budget and appropriation committee was particularly impactful, contributing significantly to policy formulation and oversight aimed at improving citizens' lives. "His death is a great loss not only to his family and constituents but also to the entire Bauchi State. We have lost a dependable legislator, a bridge-builder, and a man whose humility and dedication earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and citizens alike," the Governor stated.

The Governor urged the people of Bauchi State to find solace in the legacy of service, commitment, and selflessness left behind by the late lawmaker. On behalf of the government and people of Bauchi State, Governor Mohammed extended heartfelt condolences to Zaki's immediate family, the people of Sakwa Constituency, the Katagum Emirate Council, the Bauchi State House of Assembly, and all those affected by the loss. He prayed for forgiveness for Zaki's shortcomings, reward for his good deeds, and for him to be granted paradise, while also asking for strength for his family and the state to bear the painful loss. The funeral prayer for Zaki was held on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at the Gwallaga Jumma’at mosque in Bauchi.
