Bauchi police rescue two kidnap victims from forest

Two individuals have been rescued from captivity following a security operation in Bauchi State, Nigeria. The joint operation, conducted in Gwamnare Forest within Ningi Local Government Area, successfully freed Alhaji Yahaya and Alhaji Kabiru. The operation was initiated in response to a directive from the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, who ordered intensified efforts in regions experiencing a rise in kidnapping.

In compliance with the commissioner’s directive, operatives of the Command have successfully rescued two kidnap victims during a joint security operation conducted in Gwamnare Forest, Ningi Local Government Area.

The combined security team included members from the Violent Crime Response Unit, Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the Divisional Police Officer in Ningi, and Forestry Guards. They entered the forest via the Rafin Chiyawa axis. The operation was launched due to persistent kidnapping incidents reported in Dogon Ruwa and Rafin Chiyawa villages, which are situated near Gwamnare Forest.

During the operation, the team successfully rescued two victims, Alhaji Yahaya, male, 50 years old, of Masallachi Hamlet, Dogon Ruwa Village, and Alhaji Kabiru, male, of Gwamnare Forest.

No casualties were reported during the rescue mission. The police spokesperson, Nafiu Abubakar, stated that efforts are ongoing to locate and rescue other individuals believed to still be held captive. The Commissioner of Police commended the joint security team for their bravery and professionalism. He also reiterated the command's dedication to clearing criminal elements from forests across the state, aiming to provide reassurance to residents in the affected communities.
