Bavaria braces for thunderstorms, followed by cooler weather

Residents in Bavaria are advised to prepare for a dramatic shift in weather as the German Weather Service (DWD) forecasts severe thunderstorms on Friday. These storms could bring disruptive conditions, including hurricane-force gusts reaching up to 120 kilometers per hour, intense rainfall of up to 20 liters per square meter in an hour, and hail.

Before the storms arrive, Friday is expected to start with pleasant summer warmth. Northern Bavaria could see temperatures climb to 29 degrees Celsius, while southern regions might experience highs of 32 degrees Celsius along the lower Danube. However, a noticeable cooling is predicted for the afternoon, with temperatures dropping to around 22 degrees Celsius in the north and 18 degrees Celsius in the south.

The weather is expected to calm down significantly by Saturday. The DWD forecasts that rain in northern Bavaria will move eastward overnight, with thunderstorms becoming less likely. Southern Bavaria may still experience some lingering thunderstorms or rain showers. Saturday is predicted to bring plenty of sunshine, clear blue skies, and fluffy clouds, with temperatures ranging from 22 degrees Celsius near the Alps to 27 degrees Celsius in Lower Bavaria. Northern Bavaria will likely see more cloud cover, with possible rain until midday in Upper Franconia and the Upper Palatinate, but clearing up by evening.

Looking ahead to Sunday, a mix of sunshine and clouds is anticipated across Bavaria. While most areas are expected to remain dry, there's a chance of isolated showers in northern Bavaria. Temperatures are predicted to be between 22 and 26 degrees Celsius, dropping to 17 degrees Celsius in higher elevations.
